THE MORNING SHOW for you and your family®
I am a tall woman with a few extra pounds in her mid section and thighs. I know the obvious things I shouldn't eat while I'm trying to lose weight, but what are some things in my refrigerator and pantry that could be sabotaging my exercise regimen and diet? (Blaire)
Take an inventory of your pantry, frig and freezer. Begin with the healthy items you need - make sure you have calcium rich, low fat dairy options, antioxidant rich foods (i.e. blueberries), smoothie ingredients (including whey protein), then make sure they are easy to grab. Make your own snack bags so you can grab them on the way out or after a workout. Then remove calorie dense, high fat foods, sugary and processed foods (crackers, chips, pre-packed foods that contain Trans fats). If they are not there you won’t eat them. If you occasionally want something not on healthy list, say regular ice cream, then go out for a treat rather than buy a gallon for the freezer. There are some high calorie foods that are very healthy, but you have to be careful on how much you eat. These include nuts especially almonds and walnuts, avocados and nut butters. Keep lots of fruits and veggies around, but prepare them ahead so you don’t have to take the time to cut them up, make it easy on yourself.
