Little Critters books by Mercer Mayer
Cam Jansen series by David A. Adler

2nd grade:
The Kids of the Polk Street School chapter books by Patricia Giff --. "These are humorous adventures/mysteries and kids feel so 'grown up' when they read chapter books" 

 

3rd-5th grade:
Hank the Cowdog series by John R. Erickson --> "Humorous adventures of Hank, the head of Ranch Security boys and girls like these."
Matt Christopher Sports Classics --> "Favorites for boys, especially in the 4-5th grades, I buy new ones for the library every year."

 

5th-6th grade:
Shiloh trilogy by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor --> "A boy rescues an abused dog."
R.L. Stine's Fear Street series --> "They LOVE horror!"

6th-8th grade:
Lois Duncan's mysteries

The Alice books by Phyllis R. Naylor --> "Girls, boys, Jr. high, high school situations."

The Watsons go the Birmingham--1963 by Christopher Paul Curtis --> "Award winning book about an African American family living in Flint, Michigan travel to visit grandma in Birmingham in 1963.  It's very good, funny and has a 'surprise' historical ending"
Louis L'Amour westerns --> "Boys may like these and it's very easy reading"

DK Eyewitness Books --> "All kinds of topics: sports, wars, movies, pirates etc. Lots of great illustrations and easy reading.
