December 14, 2023 at 7:31 amChristmas traditions that we used to do when I was a kid was my mother had a game called the walnut game. She would take walnuts and hollow them out carefully not to break the shell so she could make these little papers that would have a saying like Merry Christmas, Happy New year and she would glue them back together with the paper sticking out just enough to pull out so you could read it. We would also win little prizes like life saver books, and candy canes. We had different levels of prizes. We had a grand prize, first prize, second prize, third prize, fourth prize and of course a last prize. The last prize is like a lump of coal. They would all be wrapped up in Christmas paper. It was a really fun game. I carry on the tradition of doing the walnut game. The only difference is I can’t hollow out the walnuts because my hands have arthritis really bad. We still have fun playing it. I try to carry it on. We play it for 2 or 3 weeks all the way till Christmas. She passed going on 5 years next year, so I still try to carry on the tradition of the walnut game.
